Paralegal: General Litigation

THE OPPORTUNITY

Summit Law Group is seeking a collaborative paralegal to support our busy and thriving litigation group. Paralegals are vital to our practice and central members of case teams – they contribute to case strategy, manage all aspects of discovery, interview witnesses, and participate in trials, depositions, arbitrations, and mediations.

Summit is known for its signature mix of unmatched competence, casual humor, and rejection of traditional law firm hierarchies. Paralegal openings are rare, and we prioritize the right personality fit just as much as skillset. If you love organizing documents, possess exceptional client service standards, and take great pride in your work, we’d love to hear from you.

POSITION SUMMARY

This is a true high volume litigation desk, requiring a confident paralegal with established core skills. While this desk isn’t for a newbie, we’re happy to train the right person on any specifics. Expect to work on a breadth of subjects, including constitutional and real estate litigation, Public Records and Homeowners Act cases, and commercial litigation. The core of this position is discovery, case management, and document work – all skills the successful candidate will already have established.

Soft skills are critical, given the central role our paralegals play in communicating with our clients and opposing counsel. The ideal fit is someone kind, proactive, organized, and proven to keep a level head during the unexpected. A willingness to step in when needed to get the job done is a core Summit trait. Our attorneys appreciate a strong hand and true collaboration – shrinking violets need not apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proactive discovery management, including requests, responses, collection, review, production logs, and ensuring deadlines are met
  • Assisting with trial, arbitration, mediation, and deposition preparations, including the assembly of exhibits, binder creation, and in-person attendance
  • Frequent Public Records Act redactions, productions, and preparation of exemption logs
  • Regular communication with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and co-counsel
  • Work with attorneys to leverage facts in service of legal arguments, motions, and other case filings

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Discovery and case management experience, ideally using DISCO
  • Trial and arbitration experience, both in preparation and on-site support
  • Working knowledge of standard litigation practices and procedures

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Public Records Act experience ideal, but not required
  • Ability to anticipate problems and appropriate solutions while incorporating differing viewpoints
  • Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills
  • Extraordinary attention to detail and follow-through, while consistently meeting deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on accountability, teamwork, and mutual respect
  • A “run to the fire” approach, including quick responses and short turnaround times

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Summit strives for competitive compensation and benefit packages. We offer health, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability plans, with family packages available. 401K options include Roth and traditional accounts, matching, profit sharing, and immediate vesting. Summit also offers bonuses based on firm performance, commuter benefits, ten paid holidays, and opportunities for hybrid schedules. The successful applicant must complete onboarding onsite before being eligible for a hybrid schedule.

While subject to change, we also provide offices for legal staff, firm funded HSAs, and a dog-friendly office.

The salary for this position ranges from $110-140k, depending on experience and skillset.
