Profile Introduction

Sarah represents employees and employers in workplace disputes, counsels management on employment law compliance, and conducts workplace investigations. In her employment practice, Sarah helps clients problem solve a wide range of legal issues, from discrimination and wrongful termination, to wage and hour issues, to disability accommodation. On behalf of public and private clients, Sarah conducts independent workplace investigations into claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, violations of state ethics laws, and other allegations. Sarah has appeared in both state and federal courts in various employment matters. Before joining Summit, Sarah clerked for Chief Judge Marsha J. Pechman at the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington and for Judge Marlin Appelwick at the Washington State Court of Appeals. Sarah has extensive litigation experience, having worked previously in the Trial Group at Stoel Rives on commercial litigation disputes and as a municipal prosecutor where she tried cases to verdict and handled pre-trial and post-trial motions and sentencing.


In her free time, Sarah enjoys playing soccer, the challenge of cooking from her weekly farm box, and traveling in Mexico and Central America.


Representative Cases/Matters

  • Represented regional transit authority regarding breach of contract claim against rail car manufacturer; successfully prevailed on appeal before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
  • Represented school district before the Washington State Court of Appeals regarding claim from teacher for wrongful termination;
  • Represented hotel developer in claim by former employee discrimination and wrongful termination dispute in federal court.
  • Defended city in dispute regarding constitutionality of zoning ordinances, including successfully prevailing on summary judgment and appeal.
  • Obtained $1.5 million judgment for lender in foreclosure matter.
  • Defended large company in two nation-wide class actions.
